Variance is an upcoming campaign created by Chippy player VerdeBlue. With the goal of creating a unique experience for the game, the following changes are provided to the game:
- Players start with no Shield.
- Time bombs don't stop counting down when attacked. Shield containers still do, though.
- Powerups are rebalanced and sorted into 12 new color groupings. Similar categories have similar colors.
- The two most dramatic powerup reworks are the elements of Legacy counterparts being given to Dash and Convert.
- More viable versions of the unused Eject and Recall powerups are found in co-op; see Eject (Variance) and Recall (Variance).
- Each player's gun damage is no longer reduced in co-op, but singular boss cores have doubled HP.
There is a campaign that demonstrates these changes using custom versions of Guardian, Anomaly, and Phobia.
